Twenty-two races were scheduled but on several days it was too windy to sail, a couple of days with no wind and some with no race officials.

Weekend 13th & 14th March

All Members All Members All Members, Yes, the sun came out yesterday, Saturday 13th. A gusty force 4 from the West kicking up a short chop greeted five boats competing in the final stages of our Icicle series. Victor Shuttleworth acting as OOD, Malcolm Thomason doing the Patrol Boat. Let's face it, without these volunteers we couldn't conduct the racing ------ thank you very much. We all enjoyed the two challenging races in ideal conditions. Mark in his new Laser Nick and Helen in the 400 seem to be regularly up in the front line , Paul's 505 is certainly moving faster, I'm sure the race marks will fall into place for us both Paul! The writer is falling overboard with the excitement. Mark and I are now ahead of the rest in the series, today's (Sunnnnnday)race will settle which one of us wins the trophy. Sadly Nick & Helen's spinnaker halyard broke and they were unable to fix it it in time for the start of the second race. Eventually they got on the water and tried it out but too late for the race. David was out again in his Post Boat, this time with a more attractive crew. I would mention in closing, any member wishing for an introduction to racing, would be very welcome to assist the OOD or the patrol boat driver, providing they have the correct clothing! Message ends OUT. - Ivanocean

Sadly it was much too windy to sail on Sunday

Weekend 6th & 7th March

Just letting you know, no racing today - Saturday, due to no competitors! I think most of our " regulars" attended the Dinghy show in London, however it was good to see Pete & Adrian Johnson launch the Graduate complete with spectacular capsize about two boat lengths North of the Jetty, much to the amusement of two prospective new members who live in the village.Dave Nicholls sailed his classic Post Boat and enjoyed a couple of hours sailing, I'm ashamed to admit to not sailing as I'm experiencing the mother of all colds, I'm sure my enthusiasm will propel me to the water on Sunday. Bye for now. Ivan

Sunday Sailing Some exciting stuff today, forecast of 4-5 possibly 6 brought out the usual enthusiasts, creating quite interesting entertainment for both sailors and spectators. The two gentlemen (David Nicholls & Michael Swarbrick) in the POST BOAT (not delivering your mail) sailed out to No 5, that's way past the Lighthouse, not bad at this time of the year, well done Dave & Mike Peter and Adrian were out in the Graduate, they seem to revel in anything above Force 4, good to see young Daniel out in the Topper with them, he's looking more like a prospective Laser helm ------- must have words with him ! Racing brought out new members Nick & Helen in the RS200 ! Steve Jones again, running between the OOD box and the Rescue Boat ----- aptly named today, as a couple of us needed some encouragement, say no more on that subject. The first race beating to windward in a gusty 4-5 to E, certainly called for sensitivity of hand on helm and sail trim, all boats rounded to Starboard bearing away onto a very hairy broad reach to A. Three laps of challenging racing ending in some confusion on mark H. Race 2 on the same course (thanks Steve) was equally exciting, here the writer must beg forgiveness for lack of clarity as a dramatic capsize rendered him very cold ,confused and disoriented (I can hear Paul saying "so what's different") here I struggled back to the jetty in a series of rather vague broad reaches to be greeted by two very helpful gentlemen, assisting me on recovery, I would add --------- very sensible gentlemen ------ as they didn't sail, THANK YOU Malcolm and John. Message ends. Ivanocean listening on channel 16. OUT

Weekend 20th & 21st February 2004

Around high water two races took place in the Icicle series, results later. I think there were five boats taking part - Paul in the 505, Alex on the Laser Radial, Ivan on the Laser, Richard in the Phantom and Giles S on the Laser Vortex. David was also out in his Loch Broome Post Boat. Several boats sailed out of the dock too.

Weekend 24th & 25th January 2004

On Saturday I (Michael Swarbrick) had an exciting experience sailing in Dave Nicholl's new Loch Broome Post Boat from Character Boats. The wind was around force 4 and the boat was a delight to sail. Of course we had our usual moments of unplanned excitement. There were four other boat on the water enjoying the testing conditions, Paul and friend in the 505, Ivan, Alex and Mark on their Lasers.

" ... Sunday racing saw Mark (Bamber) return in style, winning both races with ease, his Laser "engine"superior to mine, Paul and myself trailing slowly behind. GILES set an interesting course, same for both races, wind steady force 2 from the WEST.Steve kindly driving the Patrol Boat, My thanks to GILES (for doing the OOD) & STEVE. Regards Ivan. ... "

Weekend 10th & 11th January 2004

There was dinghy racing on Saturday with the start of the Icicle Series. In almost ideal conditions, i.e. it was dry, not too windy but enough wind to make it exciting, and warmish, two boats raced round the marks. Many thanks to Peter Jones and girlfriend for doing the OOD and Steve Jones for doing the Patrol Boat. Steve and Peter turned up again on Sunday to do the duties but alas it was too wild, wind literally screaming in the rigging of the boats on the hard, when sadly more boats were prepared to race.
